Bio, Jill Cecil
Jill Cecil is an accomplished artist and educator whose work seamlessly bridges the worlds of visual art and dance. Raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, Jill discovered her passion for movement and creativity early in life. She earned dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Art and Dance and an M.A. in Dance Education.
As a lifelong dancer, Jill brings a unique sensitivity to her paintings of the dance world. She is able to capture moments of dynamic energy and the intimate humanity of the dancers. Her work celebrates each fleeting moment, focusing on the interplay of the way the dancer wants to be seen, how they present themselves and how the audience views them.
Jill has been a dance educator for 20 years. Her professional experience includes working in the education departments of some of the greatest dance companies in New York City, including American Ballet Theatre, Paul Taylor Dance Company, and Gelsey Kirkland Academy of Classical Ballet.
Jill lives and works in New York City. Beyond her artistic pursuits, she is a devoted mother to two young daughters, who inspire her work and creativity every day.
